MYRNA KASSEM

Hi! I'm Myrna Kassem, a senior at Timber Creek Regional High School. Over the past year I've been working to create an app to help students reduce some of the technological burden that comes with most of schooling. The past few months have been extraordinarily difficult, and I hope my app can address some of the concerns and anxiety surrounding online learning.

POWER STUDENT

As learning in-person becomes a rarity and working from home has become the norm, it is easy to get overwhelmed with the growing number of applications being used, especially in a school setting. The use of different platforms with different access wastes time and lowers productivity. I have designed an app that can be utilized by K-12 School Districts to facilitate students' online learning. Through Power Student, students will have an all-in-one service with access to video conferencing, scheduling, teacher communication, Google Services, flashcards, to-do lists, social media, and the school website. The main purpose of this app is to reduce the burden on both teachers and students that utilize technology for school, especially in times of remote learning. I feel an app that has all of these features can increase accessibility for students, decrease the anxiety around virtual learning, and increase student productivity due to easier access.

More than half the country's school systems are using hybrid learning or completely remote learning. While this number is sure to go down, remote learning will still be necessary in the event of snow days, sick days, and other school closures. This app also aims at decreasing anxiety around technology in these times.
